This picture is stunning, looks like the ship is about to sail off the edge of Earth, but I guess Christopher Columbus proved that is impossible.
Debo’s Top Five Thursday is back with the holiday edition! Today is Halloween and it got me to thinking, where does Halloween land in my favorite holidays? Any one who knows me knows what my #1 is going to be! What holidays fill in my top five?
5. Thanksgiving – Listen I am going to get a lot of ish for this, but some holiday had to fall into the #5 spot. The thing that everyone loves about Thanksgiving, I hate. I am not a fan of a lot of the traditional food of Thanksgiving. Last year Kate made lamb and that was cool. I think the reason that Thanksgiving made the list is because of football. There is football on all day and back when I lived in Massachusetts I would go to Thanksgiving Day high school football games with my family. It is definitely where a lot of great memories were made. I do wish that there were high school football games here in in Maryland on Thanksgiving because I would love for Jacob to join in that tradition.
4. New Year’s Eve – This is a day where we celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of the next. There are many ways to celebrate the New Year, when I was younger it was out partying and now with Jacob and baby girl coming, staying in and enjoying the family is where its at.
3. Fourth of July – America’s Independence Day! It’s not just about the parties and fireworks, its about America being the greatest country in the world. I don’t want to water this day down by writing too much…
2. Halloween – Costumes and Candy. I’ll be taking part in going Trick or Treating with Jacob for the first time ever today and will then add baby girl to it, it just sounds amazing. I also love to dress up, so there’s that.
1. Christmas – There are not enough words to explain why Christmas tops my list. I don’t even mean just Christmas Day, I mean the entire season of Christmas. It’s just a happy time for me. The music, the lights, Christmas tree, there is nothing bad about this holiday! I love driving around at night a seeing all the houses decorated with lights. I love watching the faces of my family when they open their gifts. I love that Kate and I have a tradition of going to get our Christmas Tree the day after Thanksgiving. It’s coming quick everyone, get ready for it! Only 55 days left!
P.S. This is me!
I can’t believe that at this time next week I will be saying that we are under 10 weeks left until our beautiful baby girl is expected to come! Today we are sitting on 10 weeks and 4 days and although that seems like an eternity, I can definitely say that it’s going to be here so quickly. Every day that passes seems to go quicker, well for me at least because I can’t speak for Kate! I know that her back is beginning to hurt a little more now and that she is not getting full nights rest anymore. To be honest I am not really getting full night’s rest either. I am not sure if its due to the baby coming or my unemployment situation, but either way I have had a hard time sleeping. I guess that will help for when the baby is born and needs to be tended to.
It’s becoming a real possibility that I may not have a job when baby girl comes and I would not be upset by that. It would save us money on Jacob and infant daycare and I would get to spend a ton of time with both of my children. Don’t get me wrong, I need to work and that is my number one objective, but to be honest if I don’t have a job by the time she is born, that search may take a back seat for a couple months. Is that bad? I don’t think so. I mean maybe Kate can start making triple her current salary and then I could be a stay at home dad. I’d be pretty awesome! I mean I would have the cooking and cleaning down because it would be about four months of doing it, I’d just have to add a baby and a 4 year old. Ok, that was a scary sentence.
Jacob is getting excited for his sister, he keeps saying “my sister is coming soon!”, that reminds me we still need to sign him up for big brother class. I guess that is something I will do prior to next week.
So let’s talk names here. I have had people agree with the idea that we are not going to share the name with everyone until the baby is born. I have also had people that think we should share the name because if they have any issues with the name and actually say they don’t like aren’t the people that are going to be around her that often any way. Well, I see both sides and while we are still thinking we are going to keep the name a secret, I will share that we are now up to two names that we really like. We want to pick the name soon so we can get her Christmas stocking this year in case she comes for Christmas. I know what you are all thinking, even if she is here she won’t know she doesn’t have a stocking, but guess what? I love Christmas and I want her to be able to share our traditions as soon as she can!
So here is the deal, send me your name ideas either in the comment section or through Twitter @debo2pt, I would love to hear them. If there are any names that are in a bunch I will be sure to share them with everyone. ***Disclaimer: Just because you send a name in or I use the name in a post does not mean we will use it. I just want to hear your ideas***
Ok so this video came out back in April, but it was brought to my attention today by Podvader of the Fantasy Focus Football podcast. I checked it out and to be honest the fact that people thought it was funny is ridiculous. I was expecting more out of it! CM Punk didn’t even try to sing he just talked through the lyrics. It was nice to see Kaitlyn and Hornswoggle mess up the lyrics since they are so hard to get right, oh wait. Any way all in all pretty forgettable video, BUT I figured I would put it out there for people that may have missed it. So enjoy.
P.S. CM PUNK is the BEST IN THE WORLD!!!
The 2013-2014 Boston Celtics look a little different than in years past. There is no Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce or Jason Terry who were all traded to the Brooklyn Nets. There is no Doc Rivers roaming the sidelines, he is in LA coaching the Clippers. There is no Ray Allen because he left last year in free agency and won the NBA Championship with the Miami Heat. I can’t even say that there is Rajon Rondo because the talk out there is he could be back from his ACL tear anywhere from Thanksgiving to Christmas and rumor has it that if the Celtics are struggling Rondo may not come back at all. So what do the Celtics have?
The Celtics hired ex-Butler head coach Brad Stevens to replace Doc Rivers.
“Stevens, 36, joins the Celtics after coaching Butler University where he boasted a 166-49 record, four league regular season championships, three league tournament titles and six trips to postseason tournament play. He has the top two single season win totals in Butler and Horizon League history, and he became the only coach in school history to lead a team to the NCAA Division I national championship game which he did twice. Stevens owns two Horizon League Coach of the Year awards and has rewritten the NCAA record book for Best Coaching Starts by Wins. During the 2012-13 season, he moved into the top spot on the six-year list with 165 victories. He captured the five-year record (139), moving ahead of Everett Case of North Carolina State (1947-51) in 2011-12, and he owns the three-year (89) and four-year (117) records. He is second on the two-year list with 56 wins.” Boston Celtics Website
This is Stevens first year coaching in the NBA, we all remember what happened the last time the Celtics took a well known college coach they brought in Rick Pitino and we all know what happened there. Can Stevens coaching style translate to the NBA game? We’ll figure that out quickly.
The roster of the Celtics is not intimidating by any means. There are a lot of non-NBA talent on this team and that is going to show early on this season. The Rajon Rondo injury loom large on how this season goes. I can see the Celtics trading off Rondo or others to start the rebuilding process. The incoming draft class is extraordinary and it could be wise for the Celtics to take advantage of a down year. Jeff Green and Gerald Wallace play the same position and probably shouldn’t be on the floor together. Brandon Bass always plays hard, but is over matched because of his size. To be honest the entire team is small and will get over powered on many nights. The only way this team has a chance is by playing strong defense. Avery Bradley is back so he helps in that situation, but Garnett is not there to defend the rim anymore. A bright spot for the Celtics is Kelly Olynyk. Some people have compared him to a raw Dirk Nowitzki, although I think that is probably a stretch the good news is he is going to get every chance to prove that he is.
Vegas has the Celtics over/under line at 28 wins. I think they get over, but only to 32-50 and miss the playoffs. The Eastern Conference is going to be tough. Derrick Rose is back, the Nets stocked up, the Detriot Pistons are better and the Washington Wizards made a trade for Marcin Gortat that makes them a playoff contender. I hope I am wrong on this, but brace yourselves Celtics fans it could be a tough winter!
BRING ON THE RAPTORS!!!!!
Who’s ready for game 6 tonight? I’ll be honest that since the Atlanta Braves lost to the LA Dodgers I have not followed baseball at all. My friend called me a fake Red Sox fan and guess what? it is true because as he knows I am a Braves fan. The World Series has been great with all the controversies and weird plays, I probably will only flip back and forth from the game tonight because I don’t want to jinx the Red Sox, but I will make sure to watch long enough to see the Dropkick Murphy’s kick the game off with our National Anthem! They are sure to get the crowd rocking and help with the home field advantage. Hey Red Sox Nation, time to get #Bostonstrong. Good Luck Sox, finish them off!
P.S. Do it for Tessie!
